Dance Mania was a Chicago label founded Ray Barney in 1985, and was distributed out of his legenday Barney’s onestop.
From the very beginning it was known for raw, percussive tracks from the dirty side of disco and in the 90s laid down over 200 12”s that were the blueprint for what is now known as “ghettohouse”, or “bootyhouse”.
This sound became the foundation for many regional styles of dance music including Detroit’s “ghettohouse”, Baltimore’s “club”, and the current sound of Chicago’s neighborhoods known as “Juke".
We are happy to announce volume 2 of the Ghetto Classics series with this 4 track EP from two of our favorite ghettohouse producers. Features "Wouldn't You Like To Be A Hoe", taken from the "Taris Is Paris" 12" on Dance Mania (DM131) and "Groove Mode", taken from the "Funk City" 12" on Dance Mania (DM067).
