Dance Mania was a Chicago label founded Ray Barney in 1985, and was distributed out of his legenday Barney’s one-stop. From the very beginning it was known for raw, percussive tracks from the dirty side of disco and in the 90s laid down over 200 12”s that were the blueprint for what is now known as “ghetto-house”, or “booty-house”. This sound became the foundation for many regional styles of dance music including Detroit’s “ghetto-house”, Baltimore’s “club”, and the current sound of Chicago’s neighborhoods known as “Juke”.
We are happy to announce the launch of the Ghetto Classics series with this 5-tracker from two of our favorite ghetto-house producers including Deeon’s legendary “Work This M.F.” (from DM184, 1996), and “Sprint” (from DM167, 1996).
